Nankan was not a familiar place for me when I didn't become a staff in Taoyuan airport. My first impression of it was that it is an outlying township in Taoyuan County and may just have few residents there. I was wrong however when moving there just a little months after. There are in fact almost 150,000 people living in and many of them coming from Taipei. That is why the prices of property in Nankan are so higher than I could imagine before. You may have a question why so many Taipei people living there. The answer is that Taipei's property prices are too high for the masses in Taiwan and if you want to buy a small, secondhand apartment in Taipei, it may cost all your 10-year salary and bonus. But they may have a problem without working in Taipei as it is the capital in Taiwan and offers the most various job vacancies and higher salaries than other places. How to achieve the balance of getting a good job and living in a cost-friendly accommodation was a difficult task for some people when the traffic was not been developed well. However, after the highways has been built across the western of Taiwan, the commuting between counties in Taiwan has became easily and fast. Nowadays, people could live in one place and seek for a job in the others. Therefore, Nankan becomes a good choice for someone working in Taipei to buy their own house as the distance between Taipei and Nankan is just 30 minutes by driving on highway.
